Dollard-des-Ormeaux

Population: 48,127 (December 2000)
Area: 15,2 km2

This community is home to more than 48 thousand people,
most of whom are anglophones. A quiet, well-planned neighbourhood, Dollard-des-Ormeaux has a 39 hectare park with a small lake known as Centennial Park.

The growing residential community is served by a well-developed infrastructure of recreational services. There are three arenas, a 50-metre indoor pool and diving complex along with gymnastic facilities, a library and an art centre, all housed at the Dollard Civic Centre.

Dollard-des-Ormeaux is the most populous of the West Island municipalities. It is located north of the municipalities of Dorval and Pointe-Claire, above Highway 40. Its population is young and culturally diverse. Although a mainly residential community, Dollard-des-Ormeaux is home to many shopping areas. Boulevard des Sources is the municipality's main commercial street while the Marché de l'Ouest is an indoor market which offers a wide variety of specialty food shops.

The City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux became an official entity in 1924 and obtained a new charter in 1960. Although mainly residential, Dollard-des-Ormeaux has many commercial zones.

Sources and St-Jean Boulevards are its main commercial arteries. By landscaping Centennial Park, the municipality created a beautiful recreation area of 48 hectares around an artificial lake. At the heart of the City, adjacent to the administrative offices, are the Civic Centre which houses three skating rinks, two indoor swimming pools and an amphitheatre, the Cultural Centre with a reception hall, art gallery, a library and a Community Centre completing this group of public buildings, was added in 2002.
