Dorval

Population: 18,300 (December 2005)
Area: 20,64 km2

This active, family-oriented community is ranked among the first in Canada in terms of its proportion of green space per capita. Not only does Dorval have 15 parks scattered throughout the city, but any of its residential areas feature houses with large green spaces in their front and backyards.

There is a very active industrial park in Dorval as well as Dorval Airport, which provides jobs for many local residents. Modern single-family housing is the most common in Dorval. There are also areas offering townhouses and new condominium developments in the eastern area of Dorval.

To the south, Dorval borders on the river (Lake Saint-Louis), and scenic Lakeshore Road. Older houses in this area are somewhat more expensive. A new inter-modal station located between Autoroute 20 and the railway allows passengers to transfer from train to bus or airplane at the junction of expressways 20 and 520. Mirabell Autoroute 13 is only one km away.

The City of Dorval is located on the south west side of the Island of Montreal, along the shores of Lake St. Louis, 16 kilometers from Montreal's business centre. It is a focal point for international, national and regional air transport, railways and truck routes, each of which plays an important role in the overall economic life of the City. Dorval comprises an area of 20 square kilometers (7.7 square miles).

Although the airport and its infrastructures are the dominant factors in the City's economy, Dorval has grown in recent years from a primarily residential and key airport area to include a flourishing modern industrial park.

The City is blessed with an exceptional geographic location and environment, both of which it has carefully managed, wisely developed, protected and never ceased to improve. Standing at the crossroads of all major routes linking Quebec municipalities and leading to the neighboring Provinces as well as to the United States, Dorval is also in close proximity to the Port of Montreal.

The City of Dorval has much to offer: an industrial park, an abundance of green space, highly desirable residential neighborhoods, recreational and cultural activities that are an integral part of the social fabric, enthusiastic people who are proud of their City, scenic areas and lakeside setting.

Furthermore, the City has succeeded in combining all these advantages into a coordinated and harmonious community which makes its superb location a major element of the quality of life in Dorval.
