Lachine

Population: 40,053 (December 2000)
Area: 17,31 km2

Lachine is located along Lake Saint-Louis to the west of downtown Montréal. The city benefits from its strategic location at the crossroads of Highways 13 and 20.

Lachine was the departure point for the great canoe convoys which took trade goods into the Canadian West and the municipality has paid special attention to beautifying the waterfront along Lake Saint-Louis. This includes a shoreline promenade, bicycle paths, marinas and canoe clubs and The Fur Trade National Historic Site.

Lachine is reputed for the quality of its recreational and cultural amenities. The development of two medium/superior-quality residential projects at the intersection of 32nd Avenue and Highway 13 is almost completed
