Pierrefonds

The largest West Island community and home to about 54,502 residents, Pierrefonds has been well established for longer than neighbouring communities such as Dollard and Kirkland. In addition to its 12 km of shoreline along Rivère des Prairies and beautiful wooded areas like Cap Saint-Jacques to the west and Bois-de-Liesse regional park to the east. Pierrefonds also features attractive and affordable housing. Pierrefonds' modern recreational centre has produced a number of world-class Canadian athletes. Its top-notch facilities provide a variety of recreational activities. Citizens benefit from the cultural and sporting facilities made available by local school boards. Thirteen schools, English and French, welcome the population.

Pierrefonds, one of the fastest-growing communities in the West Island, extends along the southern shoreline of Rivière-des-Prairies from the nature park of Cap-Saint-Jacques in the west to the Bois-de-Liesse in the east The three nature parks within its territory offer such activities as swimming, cross-country skiing, nature trails and ecological farm. The municipality offers its citizens the use of an indoor arena, a host of recreational facilities and a cultural centre. Boating is a popular activity for local residents.

 

Major commercial streets include Gouin and Pierrefonds Boulevard. A full network of English and French-language schools is available. Housing in Pierrefonds is affordable, including both low and high-density apartments, condominiums, town houses and a wide array of single-family accomodation. The municipality is a favourite choice of younger families.
