Area: 19,16 km2

Pointe-Clair is a large and very diverse West Island community. Quaint shops and boutiques can be found in the Pointe-Claire Village near the lakeshore with stately shoreline homes nearby, and a very important industrial district and high-tech centre only a few kms away along the Trans-Canada Hwy.

The residents, a substantial majority of whom are anglophone, enjoy complete recreational facilities at the Pointe-Claire Aquatic Centre. The indoor skating rink, numerous outdoor parks, rinks and tennis courts and shopping centre serve as a meeting place for hundreds of West Islanders every weekend.

Pointe-Claire began its developments as a French-Canadian village and summer retreat for city dwellers. Over the years it has evolved into a well-planned residential, commercial and industrial community.

Located immediately to the west of Dorval, Pointe-Claire is home to the Fairview Shopping Centre, the West Island's major retail complex, offering 200 stores, restaurants and cinemas. Fairview and other commercial developments located along Saint-Jean Boulevard serve both local and regional clients.

The residential zone of Pointe-Claire is located on both sides of Highway 20 and includes many lakefront properties. Housing is mainly single-family but includes some apartments, townhouses and condominium units. The municipality also includes the Lakeshore General Hospital.

The old Pointe-Claire village is filled with quaint shops, boutiques and historic homes and the cultural centre, Stewart Hall, is a West Island landmark. The municipal library has three branches. Pointe-Claire has a national reputation for its competitive recreational sports programs, especially in swimming and diving. Other amenities include a private golf club and marina.

The city's symbol is the windmill located on the shoreline. The area remains known in the sports world for its contributions to competitive swimming and diving, and has sent several Canadian athletes to the Summer Olympic Games. It is also the hometown of musician Sam Roberts and British tennis star Greg Rusedski.

There are four High Schools in Pointe-Claire. St. Thomas High School is located at 120 Ambassador Avenue, and Felix Lecler, which is adjacent to St. Thomas High School. John Rennie High School is located at 501 St John's Blvd. Lindsay Place High school is on Broadview Ave.
